Green tea blueberry ginger smoothie

green tea smoothie

Here we are, Friday!!!!

I don’t know about you but in winter the fruits are not at such high request in my house (surely not like in summer) so here’s a way to up your fruit intake plus we all know the benefits of ginger and the so much talked about green tea.

Since it is a great way to boost your immune system why not try this during weekend?

What you need:

  • 1/2 cup prepared good quality green tea (I actually use Yunnan Green Organic but you choose your own, You can even make it decaff if kids are having it as an afternoon treat). Take care it is room temperature or chilled
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon peeled and chopped fresh ginger
  • 2 large kale leaves (i strip the stem and cut them a bit)
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries, rinse them first
  • 1/2 cup golden or red raspberries fresh or frozen (i use frozen)
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds (you can skip this but if you don’t have them at hand but I always put them)
  • Honey if you want it sweeter

How you make it:

Simple: dump everything in a blender and pulse until smooth and creamy

ENJOY!!!

Why I love this smoothie?

Well, one of my kids would not drink tea (yes, I can’t believe it either) unless she is sick. She would go with fruit infusions and I think she is responsible about the mysterious disappearance of at least half of the Mango Tango from my personal stash. The 15 year one would go only for Assam black tea and the other….well as long as it has xylitol in it or honey she would drink anything.

The small one isn’t allowed anything with actual tea (white, green, black, oolong or pu-Erh) as he is not even 4 yet but I have a lot of things that I make with rooibos or herbal or fruit infusions so he is ok.

Saying that, there is a resistance in ginger department from all our kids and even if us adults like it it’s hard to integrate it in the kids diet and we all know the benefits of this marvelous root especially in winter. So here is a perfect way to “trick them” a little into healthy stuff.

The first time I made it kids were not yet home from school so they didn’t see the ingredients and they loved it.

It was funny to see their reactions when I told them what they just drank but it is a recurrent drink in our house since then, especially when a nose or throat is starting to feel off.
