Hibiscus treats

As you have seen probably here on my blog I love tea but for me tea is not just hot drink to be served with a drop of honey or xylitol.

Oh no, you can do so much more with good quality loose leaf tea, and here is one of our go to drink in summer:

 
 

 

 

Hibiscus drink

Hibiscus Flower Drink

What you need:

1. 473 ml water

2. 3 Tbsp. xylitol (can use honey as well)

3. 2 Tbsp. lemon juice (please take the time and use lemon juice from actual lemon not the one bought in store)

4. ice cubes

5. 15 hibiscus flowers

How you do it:

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a sauce pan.

  2. Add the hibiscus blossoms to the boiling water. Cook until the petals turn white.

  3. Remove from heat. Strain the petals. Let it cool.

  4. Add sugar and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.(You can store this syrup in the refrigerator for long use).

  5. Add ice cubes and serve. Enjoy the chilled refreshing drink

Adjust sugar and lemon juice according to your taste

Agua de Jamaica…with a twist

 
 What you need:
  1.  1/4 vanilla bean (scraped)
  2.  0.83 liters filtered water
  3.  17 grams hibiscus blossoms (dried, plus a few more for garnish)
  4.  1/2 Orange
  5.  1 cinnamon stick
  6.  101 grams white sugar (or cane)
How you do it:
  1. Make a simple syrup, you can find how to here or use the one that is still in the back of the fridge if you already made it.
  2. When getting the syrup of the heat (if you are using one already made just bring it to boil point and turn off the heat), stir in the hibiscus blossoms, juice form 1/2 orange and the cinnamon stick. Cover the pan and let it steep for 15 to 20 minutes
  3. Run the tea through a strainer, discarding the tea leaf mixture and transfer the concentrate to the refrigerator to cool. When ready to serve, mix in 1 1/2 cups water to dilute. ( You can simply not add the water if you don’t want it diluted) Pour over ice, garnish with a few hibiscus flowers, orange slices or lime slices.
